You learn something everyday; Not all of it useful.
Surveys often supply good content for radio. Sometimes for information, sometimes for mirth and merriment.
The humble tea, for example, poses a not insignificant threat to human health may be interesting, but is it useful.?
Possibly if it is a tie breaker in a quiz. That's a remote possibility.
By way of explanation, thirty-seven people were injured so seriously by the pot warmers in 1999 that they were admitted to hospital. This is nationally not just Bolton. Most of the injuries were caused by scalding, usually after an attempt to pick up a teapot by its cover rather than the handle, while others followed trips on cosies lying on slippery kitchen tiles or lino.
Knowing facts like these it is little wonder that my first show on Bolton FM (in 2008/2009) was called 'Music and Waffle'. But I was told very early on in my Bolton FM training that 'show content' - generally whatever isn't music - should be 'local, relevant and timely'.
Of more immediate interest than tea cosies then is the return of the Teenage Market to Victoria Square between 10am and 4pm this Saturday.
The Teenage Market is an amazing platform for young people to get their work out on display to the public in a way that might not otherwise have been possible all the while demonstrating the great creativity and business acumen that young people have.
Around 20 young entrepreneurs will be selling items ranging from cakes, chocolates to jewellery and crafts (maybe even knitted tea cosies!)
Bolton Lads and Girls Club, YMCA Bolton, Bolton Youth Council and Castle Hill Youth Centre will also be trading at the event.
A stage will also showcase live music from young bands and singers, with Bolton FM compering.
James.
The average person will suffer 4,944 injuries and minor ailments over the course of their lifetime, a survey has found. Each year, cuts, bruises, bugs and colds mean you'll be in pain or feel under the weather a total of 61 times.
